 Fasting on 9th of Ava

Tonight, July 29th, is Tisha B'Av. (in translated from Hebrew Ninth of Av). This is a national day of mourning and fasting in Jews in memory of the destruction First and Second temples in Jerusalem. On this day, Jews do not eat, drink, or even wash themselves (only hands for hygienic purposes and eyes are allowed), and do not wear leather shoes. Fasting begins at 8 p.m. ava a few minutes before sunset and ends after the stars appear in the sky in the evening 9-th (July 30).

Tisha B'Av is the only day of the year when a Jew is not allowed to study. Toru, because its study is considered a source of joy. Only texts related to the expression of grief and sadness can be studied.

Traditions on this day state that the last meal before the fast should consist of only one dish and should not contain any meat or wine. The general rule for the 9th of Av is to equate it with mourning for the deceased closest relative, and one should sit on the floor or on a low bench. On this day, it is forbidden to use incense and perfume, work or do business.
