Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation “Hesed Besht” is happy to participate in various public initiatives, especially if they relate to the development of society or education. The Foundation’s library, located in the “Thia” Community Center, promotes reading literature, accustoms children and youth to the printed word as opposed to the comprehensive, but often low-quality electronic expansion of the global network. Therefore, the Foundation took part in the “book crossing” initiative, which recently started in the city of Khmelnytskyi in the form of a bookcase in the Ivan Franko Park.
According to the terms of the book crossing, a book can be taken from the bookcase for 2 weeks, after which it must be returned to its place, as in a regular library. The library of the Hesed Besht Foundation provided books from its shelves as a gift, so they will not be returned to the Community Center. The selection of publications that have now "settled" in the booth is quite broad: there is fiction, books for self-development, and reference books on various topics. A prominent place was also taken by copies of the fresh literary and journalistic magazine "Shtetl" No. 6, which was published to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the Foundation. The unique publication reflects the color of the modern Jewish community of the region and touches on the history of the Jewish community of the Khmelnytskyi and Ternopil regions.
The library hopes that in the cold season our literature will bring warmth to people who will take part in the beech crossing. Such an initiative is needed by modern society, so our organization does not remain aloof from such a wonderful cause.
