The liberation of the Polish concentration camp "Auschwitz-Birkenau" seventy years ago initiated the celebration of a new day on a global scale. Now January 27 is World Holocaust Remembrance Day. On the eve of the seventieth anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp, the KhBF "Hesed Besht" in cooperation with the M. Ostrovsky Regional Scientific Library held a history lesson for students of the 10th grade of the Khmelnytskyi City College.
It is certainly necessary to talk about the Holocaust with the younger generation. Only next year, schoolchildren will study this topic for only one school hour according to the curriculum. This is extremely little to fully comprehend the scale of the tragedy, its causes and consequences. Six million lives cut short around the world, among which were sixteen thousand Proskurov residents - our former compatriots. These are just numbers, but behind them lie broken destinies, specific names of people. No lesson is able to convey the entire tragedy of the Shoah, but the employees of the Hesed Besht Children's Charity Foundation do not abandon their efforts to tell about it more fully and more, to reveal the truth to more young people.
The lesson flew by extremely quickly, but it was clear from the children's eyes that it was not in vain. In addition to a tour of the museum and a tour of the exhibition, the children were shown an excerpt from the documentary film "On the Eve of the Catastrophe", created by the Center for Holocaust Studies in Ukraine "Tkuma". The history teacher also made a significant contribution, emphasizing to the children after the lecture the importance of studying this event in order to avoid such tragedies in the future.
Tomorrow, January 27, the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" will hold a series of memorial events, including a minyan visit to the Holocaust Memorial on Silskohospodarska Street. No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten.
