An unusual chess tournament was held at the Community Center "Thia". Youth competed with experience and no one was going to give up for nothing. The competition of three generations participating in the tournament was judged by FIDE master, former champion of the city and region and now President of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Chess Federation "Strategy" Mykhailo Gerasimenyuk.
Representatives of different generations united in teams with appropriate names: "Young Talents", "Chess Strategists", which included middle-aged people, and "Chess Veterans". The total age of the last team was 329 years, while the children were all 19 years old. There were many expectations before the competition among both players and fans. Of course, the "Young Talents" had the largest fan club, because they all came with their parents.
According to the tournament rules, each player had to play each other, and the order of the games was determined by drawing lots. The “battles” on the chessboards lasted almost three hours, during which time the winners and losers were determined.
So, wisdom, after all, prevailed. The first place in the overall standings was won by the team of “Chess Veterans”. However, the youth took second place by a small margin, overtaking the “Strategists”. In addition to diplomas, the participants of the competition also received nice gifts – copies of the literary and journalistic magazine “Shtetl 6”. And the children also received a set of colored chalk to draw chessboards on the asphalt in the summer.
According to Mykhailo Gerasimenyuk, such meetings are extremely useful, especially for children. The opportunity to play with experienced opponents does not come often, but it greatly improves the skills of young talents. Therefore, to stimulate children to develop skills in this sport, tournaments should be held more often.
