Photo report

As part of the project of the Vinnytsia public organization “Information and Educational Center “VIS”, which implements the Network Health project, with the support of the Foundation “Women's Health and Family Planning” and employees of the Foundation “Hesed-Besht” and coordinators of the “Project Kesher” center in Shepetivka, a lecture-seminar was held on the topic: “Popularization of reproductive rights, reproductive health and family planning”. The educational event took place on June 10, 2015 at the Shepetivka Medical School. The place was not chosen by chance: future doctors should not only treat patients, but also be a model of health themselves, anti-propaganda of bad habits.

The event, which took place at the Shepetiv Medical School, was held in the best traditions of European trainings. After all, in order to attract the audience's attention to the topic, it is important not only what to talk about, but also how to do it. Only with the right approach can you achieve the desired result. Fortunately, the organizers of the seminar were well trained for such events and are professionals in this field.

First of all, the students were invited to the cafeteria for a coffee break. The old saying “A student must be hungry” does not apply to the current participants of the seminar. The informal start relieved the tension in the groups (and there were several groups of up to a hundred people in total) and set the mood for a positive change. The seminar was opened by Alena Yefanova, head of the Shepetivka branch of the Hesed Besht Charitable Foundation, who told the audience the purpose of the seminar and updated the issues.

Currently, family planning is considered an extremely acute problem. That is why the United States Agency for International Development/USAID invests a lot of resources in competent preparation of young people for this complex process. Relevant literature is distributed among young citizens, similar events are held, and work is underway to help future husbands and wives responsibly approach the creation of a new cell of society - the family. Alena Yefanova presented the goals and objectives of the event to the students present, introduced the specialists who came to conduct the seminar and the donors, thanks to whom this became possible in these difficult times.

The warm-up session called "Paperclip" was conducted by the information manager of the Hesed Besht Children's Charity Foundation, Vyacheslav Nagnybida. An extremely simple task illustrated the irreversibility of the processes of losing health due to one's own negligence. Each of the participants in the meeting was given a paperclip, which the trainer asked to unbend to the appearance of a metal rod. And after that, the participants were asked to return everything to the way it was - to bend the paperclip back. The first procedure took an average of 30 seconds, unlike the second, which some did not manage at all. Thus, by projecting one's own health onto a metal paperclip, one can see for themselves that breaking something is much harder than putting everything back together. This simple exercise was intended to illustrate this to the students with a simple example, to remain in their memory for a long time.

Client Manager from the Health Center of the Hesed Besht Charity Foundation and activist of the Kesher Project, Natalia Gerasimenko, proudly wore an apron with the bright inscription "Volunteer" before her speech. Her speech was aimed at raising the self-awareness of future doctors in the field of their own health. Natalia Leonidovna shared her many years of experience working with risk groups, using simple examples, explaining the importance of timely and systematic examinations by doctors for the purpose of prevention.

The speech of the head of the youth wing of "Kesher Hadash" Olga Nikitina was energetic. The special contact method of promoting a healthy lifestyle greatly encouraged the student audience. Calling students to her one by one, Olga asked them simple questions about their lifestyle and emphasized positive factors. After each short conversation in public, the participant was taken to make a solemn promise not to smoke, drink alcohol, or play sports. The moment of the promise was recorded with a camera to motivate the student to keep his word. An extremely simple method turns out to be extremely effective - it is easier for the audience to understand the information that passes through their classmates and acquaintances. The speech ended with a demonstration of a fresh video clip on the topic of meaningful family planning, which was created in the "New Look" studio of the Hesed Besht Children's Charity Foundation especially for this event on the eve of the trip.

At the end of the event, students were given information booklets, special literature from donors, and special cards for monitoring women's health. Promoting a healthy lifestyle is worth a lot, but its absence costs much more, and sometimes is simply priceless when it comes to human life. Thus, through joint efforts, the organizers held an extremely useful event that will be reflected in the health level of future medical workers. For this, they received high marks from the management of the educational institution and grateful ovations from the students.
