On the occasion of World Donor Day, which is celebrated on June 14, an excursion was organized for activists of the Hesed Besht Youth Club of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Blood Transfusion Station at the initiative of psychologist Valentina Savalyk to the Khmelnytskyi Regional Blood Transfusion Station. Given the seriousness of the organization, not everyone could get here, but only those club members who had proven themselves as the most active in past events. The purpose of the visit was to tell teenagers about donation, which in the near future may become quite a common occurrence for them.
Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" fosters goodness in its young wards from an early age. Volunteering for the benefit of the community or community is taught here very early. This happens in parallel with the study of Jewish traditions and Commandments, including Tzdaka and Mitzvah (charity and helping one's neighbor). Therefore, donation, as a charitable voluntary process, fits perfectly into the category of things that young people need to know about in advance. And although children still have several years of time until they can be blood donors (from the age of 18), it is necessary to learn about it from a specialist in advance.
At the Blood Transfusion Station, children and madrichs were met by the Head of the Blood Products Department, a doctor of the highest category, Martyniuk Evelina Mykhailivna. Her story about the basics of donation took place in the assembly hall of the organization. Here, the children learned about everything in detail: from the legislative norms that regulate donation in our country to the demonstration of devices with which the blood donation process takes place. Much attention was paid to studying the donor card - a document that has been in effect for 70 years, confirming blood donation and containing a questionnaire with a list of reasons that may prohibit a person from donating blood. Extremely complex terms and concepts were simplified to be acceptable for children, so they learned the information qualitatively. And the scary, at first glance, plastic devices that are used to take a valuable substance from the body, could be held in their hands and made sure that all this is not scary at all.
The children had many questions for the doctor regarding the prohibitions on donating blood. They will forever remember things that can be potentially dangerous for infection with various diseases: piercings, tattoos, unprotected contact, abuse of chemicals and medications, etc. After the story, the club members were given bahalas and taken around the floors of the transfusion station. They saw the specialists' offices, laboratories, fractionation department units, and blood product packaging rooms. The only thing the guests did not see here was, in fact, blood.
The excursion turned out to be extremely useful and interesting for the children. In the future, they will be much more confident in joining the respected community of donors, who are highly moral and kind people. This is exactly what we want to see in our youth – people who will soon become leaders of the Jewish community. Therefore, we express our great gratitude to the administration of the KZOZ KHOSPK and Evelina Martyniuk for the excursion to World Donor Day.
