In 5776, the central Sukkah in the city of Khmelnytskyi was installed on the territory of the Community Center "Thia". Both employees of the Jewish organization and community members, volunteers and artists worked on its construction. Together, they managed to build a beautiful traditional kuren and decorate it in accordance with the natural resources of Israel and the territorial features of Ukraine. Under the roof of the sukkah, through which, as is customary, the sky is visible, grape clusters hang, reminding us of the native home of all Jews. And the entrance and walls are decorated with poppies and flowers that grow in our latitude, symbolizing the hospitality of Podillia, which has become a second home for us.
On the first day, the Sukkah was visited by over 50 people – members of our community. Here, traditional attributes of the holiday awaited them: they could smell the etrog and shake myrtle branches. Despite the capricious weather, our people honored the traditions of their people. This is extremely important for our community center, since not many are able to build a Sukkah on their own, and our task is to provide all Jews with an equal opportunity to observe the traditions of the holiday.
