Travelers near the Ten Commandments

Summer is a great time for traveling and active recreation. The Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation “Hesed Besht” is implementing various work methods so that all categories of clients can use this time with pleasure and benefit! On June 13, a group of clients of the Day Development Center went on a trip to visit Jewish places in the neighboring city of Ternopil and have a great time in pleasant company.

On the second day of Shavuot, the group visited an interesting place at the entrance to the city. Here, a granite slab with the Ten Commandments, which were given to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai many years ago, is set into the stone. And although this is a common place for believers of many faiths, the sacred Commandments sound the same for everyone. That is why the first stop during the holiday was symbolic.

Hospitality of Ternopil City Center

At the Ternopil Community Center of the Hesed Besht Charitable Foundation, employees of our organization were already waiting for the guests. Most of the Khmelnytskyi residents were here for the first time, so there was really something to see. This is both the museum part of the OC and the conference hall, divided into two parts for the most convenient holding of programs. The Ternopil OC is also famous for its wealth of beadwork, painted canvases, and other types of art.

A tour of Ternopil's Jewish sites showed the Day Center participants how rich the community's history was before its destruction by the occupiers during the war. Almost the entire historical part of the city is full of Jewish addresses, surnames, and possessions.

A special place in the walk through the city was occupied by a visit to the monument at the site of the executions of the Jewish population by the Nazis. The guests brought stones with them, as dictated by the ancient Jewish tradition, and took out weeds, carefully removing everything that had grown on the territory since the last cleaning. And although the age of the Day Center participants is far from young, everyone actively joined this type of activity, since this is another commandment of the people, which everyone should follow.

The highlight of the trip was a boat trip. The magnificent views of the Ternopil Reservoir and the surrounding city, combined with the gentle lapping of the waves behind us, plunged our people into a romantic mood of travel. It was a pleasant and memorable event for all participants of the excursion.

Sights of a beautiful city

This was the day for the participants of the Day Development Center. It debunked the stereotypes that in our country travel and tourism are only for young people. Thanks to our organization, every client can feel like a traveler, visit neighboring Jewish communities and learn about their history.
