Today is a big holiday for us! On the eve of Sukkot, the ritual nailing of mezuzahs to the doorposts of the Social Assistance Center took place. Not everything is ready for operation yet, but people are already starting to come here, which means that the house should be under the protection of the Almighty according to the ancient tradition of the Jewish people.
Members of the Jewish community, employees and clients of the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation “Hesed Besht” came to the holiday. The honor of attaching amulets with sacred texts and reciting a bracha (blessing) fell to an active member of the community, philanthropist Gennady Vugman. Together with the Director of the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation “Hesed Besht” and the Chairman of the Board of the Jewish Community, Igor Ratushny, they attached mezuzahs to all the entrance doors on the first floor.
The organization's public relations manager, Lyudmila Shvartsman, in her opening remarks once again reminded everyone present of the importance of observing the tradition of attaching a mezuzah and the basis of this sacrament. She noted that the word "mezuzah" itself is translated as a doorpost. "Mezuzot" are parchments with the beginning of the Shema prayer, which have been used since ancient times as home amulets. And the box for the scroll itself can be of completely different shapes and decorations.
Special mezuzahs were prepared for the Social Assistance Center, which began to be collected long before the solemn moment. Great joy was felt today by the participants of the minyan, clients and community members: many of them have been waiting for the creation of the Center for more than ten years, and therefore today they have a double holiday. After all, soon new necessary programs will be launched here for needy and low-income community members to maintain health, well-being, overcome loneliness and much more.
Like every Jewish holiday, today's celebration was not without treats. It is extremely pleasant that it took place in the premises of the social dining room, the creation of which took the founders of the Social Assistance Center so long. And although the shelves on the walls are not yet filled, all the furniture is not yet assembled, the dining room is already working and receiving its first visitors. It was a truly touching moment for all participants of the event.
