JEWISH SHRINE OF MEDZHYBOZH
As part of the project "Jewish Revival. Lessons of Historical Truth," a group of project participants visited Medzhyborz. Due to the fact that the town has preserved a lot of Jewish shrines, and because Hasidim from all over the world have been coming there recently, it fully lives up to the name "little Eretz Israel."
Project leader, manager of the Hesed Besht Charitable Foundation, G. Skrypnyk, spoke about the history of the town and its Jewish community. Unfortunately, there are no local Jews left in Medzhyborz today, but there are many Jewish pilgrims on its streets, so Hebrew is often heard, many new houses have been built in the Baal Shem Tov quarter, on which signs are installed in Hebrew, and the town continues to develop. Our group visited the graves of the tzaddik Baal Shem Tov and his followers, the old Jewish cemetery, where a large number of matzevs have survived and are in good condition, visited the old and new synagogues, and near the Besht well, the men performed ablutions in the mikveh.
We are lucky: Medzhibizh, which almost all Jews in the world so desire to get to, to leave notes with requests and wishes, to touch the grave of the righteous man and gain wisdom from his teachings, is practically next to our city. Holy places give strength and strengthen faith, which is why we love visiting the Jewish shrines of Medzhibizh so much.
