The literary and journalistic collection "Shtetl" was recently published. The 7th issue is entirely dedicated to the centenary of the Proskuriv Jewish pogrom, which occurred in 1919.
The publication of the collection was preceded by painstaking research. Many new documents were found, including lists of victims of the pogrom, extracts from the registration journal of the Jewish city and Proskuriv zemstvo hospitals, from the city's dressing stations with lists of those wounded during the pogrom who sought help, etc. The authors of the collection, director of the Hesed Besht Foundation Igor Ratushny, volunteers Semen Milman, Leonid Zapadenko, Vyacheslav Mikhailovsky, editor of the publication, manager of the Hesed Besht Foundation Yana Baranova, spared no effort or time to ensure that the collection was filled with useful information and worthy of the bright memory of the innocent victims.
This issue of "Shtetl" (like the previous ones) will certainly be useful to the employees of the "Hesed Besht" foundation, scientists, historians, museum workers, librarians and everyone who works to preserve the historical heritage of our city. We very much hope that it will also become a textbook for the younger generation, that the lessons of the pogrom will not only be studied, but also assimilated, so that extremist sentiments in society are nipped in the bud and such tragedies have no chance of recurring.
