In the distant year of 1943, our famous compatriot, Hero of the Soviet Union, tanker Volodymyr Vayser, died at the Chopovichi station. He died in battle, repelling a fascist attack in his tank. The memory of him still lives in our hearts. The date of our compatriot's death was commemorated both in the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" and at the city level.
The “Interesting Meetings Club”, which meets regularly at the “Thia” Community Center, dedicated its meeting to the topic of Volodymyr Weiser’s life and feat. The Foundation’s volunteer, ethnographer and local historian Leonid Zapadenko, told the participants about the course of the battles and the feat of the tanker. The figure of Weiser complements the theme of the victorious participation of Jews in the fight against the fascist invaders. Therefore, the archival unit of the Hesed Besht Foundation has an entire section dedicated to Volodymyr Zelmanovich. This also played a significant role in the opening of the Weiser Museum in the former school No. 10, where our countryman studied. The testimonies of the Foundation’s client, the hero’s cousin, Beti Isakovna Kryshtun, are also invaluable.
City-level celebrations took place at the Interschool Educational and Production Complex, where the Volodymyr Vaiser Memorial Museum is now located. Former front-line soldiers, representatives of public associations and youth gathered here. The Khmelnytsky Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" took part in the memorial meeting quite widely. In addition to the director Igor Ratushny and staff, clients of the Day Development Center also came here, among whom many were the hero's peers. Actor of the "Mirror of the Universe" theater, employee of the Foundation Dmitry Kornitsky, took part in the program, using his acting talent to read lines about the war and the feat from the memoirs of fellow soldier Vaiser.
The current students of the plant know about the feat of the hero who once also went to study within the walls of this building. This day, veterans - living witnesses of those events - spoke before them.
But the memory of the feat is indelible. As well as the person who performed this feat. We are proud of our compatriot and brother, who at the cost of his own life brought the bright Victory closer.
