The Khmelnytsky Jewish community was visited by representatives of the United Nations. The meeting was held at the Thiia Community Center, the delegation was represented by the UN Monitoring Mission's human rights specialist Kamal Mirzayev and national specialists Romana Lemishka and Tetyana Isterevich. First of all, the guests were interested in the observance of human rights in accordance with international law in our community, the projection of events in Eastern Ukraine onto our territories.
In general, the guests were pleasantly impressed by the visit to the Khmelnytskyi Jewish community. We have no interethnic conflicts (not only manifestations of anti-Semitism, but also xenophobia in general), the community develops in close cooperation with local authorities and public organizations. There are almost no signs of damage and vandalism of cultural monuments, as is the case in other regions of the country. At the same time, the guests were informed about the wave of desecration of the buildings of the Khmelnytskyi Jewish Community Foundation "Hesed Besht" and the memorial complex in Memory of the Victims of the Pogrom, which swept through the city in March of this year.
The UN representatives were shown the work of the Thia Community Center, its museum and development programs. The guests took many photos, but not for the protocol, but for themselves personally, as they were pleasantly surprised by the level of organization of the Community Center's work. They also highly praised the level of dialogue between national entities, which our Foundation actively supports, since the premises of the Thia Community Center work not only for the needs of the Jewish community, but can also be used by representatives of any nationality in the context of a cultural integration process, activities for the benefit of people. Hearing such things from human rights specialists was extremely pleasant for both the organization's management and employees. Together, we were once again convinced that we are on the right path and working for the citizens.
