On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" together with the Chornoostrivka Central District Library held field trips called "Lessons of the Holocaust". The library hosted a traveling exhibition "Holocaust and Memory", which tells about the extermination of the Jewish population of our region by the fascist occupiers during the Great Patriotic War.
The event was attended by groups of students from the Vocational Agrarian Lyceum and middle school students from the educational complex. This topic is not new for the people of Chognoostriv, because before the war there was a large Jewish community in the settlement. There were six synagogues in the town, and there were numerous craft shops. Almost the entire Jewish population died during the Holocaust.
A historical excursion with mobile stands revealed to visitors the root causes, course and consequences of the large-scale extermination of Jews on the basis of their nationality. The exhibition also touches on the heroism of the Rulers of the Nations of the World - people who, risking their own lives, saved innocent neighbors, friends or just strangers from death. The event was complemented by a story about child prisoners of the ghetto, who were helped to survive by faith in the best and ordinary dolls.
For the Chornoostrivska District Library, cooperation with the Hesed Besht Foundation is not new - one joint event has already been held before, and now several future ones have been planned, in particular, for the Day of Writing. The importance of cooperation was also noted by the director of the library, which can be called exemplary without hesitation, Zoya Viktorivna Filipenko. In addition to the program for youth, the information manager V. Nagnybida and the manager of cultural and mass community work Liza Biletska held a presentation for the employees of the Central District Library on the topic "Factors of relevance of studying the Holocaust in Ukraine". Based on the traveling exhibition, the managers drew the attention of library employees to important aspects of holding events of this nature, controversial issues and personalities.
