On June 6, the Jewish community of Khmelnytsky gathered in Hesed to traditionally celebrate Shavuot with friends and acquaintances. This is a very big holiday, it was established in honor of a significant event in the history of mankind - the Sinai Revelation. On this day in 2448 from the creation of the world, the sons of Israel received from the Almighty the Torah and the Ten Commandments, which became the moral and ethical basis of our entire civilization.
Shavuot is not only the day of the giving of the Torah, but also the feast of first fruits, the harvest festival, because in Israel it coincides with the beginning of the wheat harvest and the gathering of the first fruits - which the Jews carried to the Temple.
On the night of the holiday, it is customary to stay awake and study the Torah. On the days of Shavuot, Jews traditionally gather in families in synagogues to listen to the Ten Commandments and relive the awe that the Jews first felt near Mount Sinai. Then they arrange rich meals with dairy and plant foods. On the second day after reading the Torah, those whose parents are already beyond the border of eternity recite the memorial prayer Izkor and promise to make a donation in their merit.
The participants of the celebration told what they knew about Shavuot, remembered how they celebrated this holiday in the old days and how they are now returning to traditions, and treated themselves to dairy dishes.
