Honoring Holocaust victims on the 84th anniversary of the mass shootings at Babyn Yar

Today, as part of honoring the 84th anniversary of the mass shootings in Babyn Yar, a commemorative rally was held on the territory of the Holocaust Memorial, uniting the community and our like-minded people in a joint prayer for the innocent martyrs of the Holocaust.

Serhiy Tyurin - Head of the Khmelnytskyi Military Administration, Ihor Ratushny - Director of the Khmelnytskyi Hesed Besht Foundation, Yosef Teitelbaum - Rabbi of the city of Khmelnytskyi, the foundation's staff, together with the Jewish community, laid flowers, stones and lit candles in memory in the name of spreading the historical truth about the events, the consequences of which are still felt by the Jewish people.

Over the course of two days, September 29 and 30, 1941, mass shootings took place in Kyiv at Babyn Yar, during which time at least 33,771 people were brutally exterminated, solely on the grounds of belonging to the Jewish Kaghal.

It is worth mentioning that 8,200 residents of Proskurov, who were murdered by the Nazis in the fall of 1942, found eternal rest on the territory of the Memorial in our city. Thus, according to the 1939 census, 122,000 Jews lived in the Khmelnytskyi region, 115,000 of whom died during the war. More than 10,000 Jews were shot in Proskurov.

For the 27th year, the management of the Hesed Besht Foundation, together with volunteers, has been conducting ongoing work to study the facts of the Holocaust in the region and far beyond its borders, preserving and organizing places of remembrance, and conducting educational work in educational institutions and institutions of native regions who are interested in the true history of the Khmelnytskyi region.

Also, commemorative events honoring the victims of the Holocaust were held in the cities of Ternopil, Lutsk, and Kamianets-Podilskyi. Representatives of local authorities, public organizations, and concerned residents laid flowers at the memorials, lit candles in memory, and honored the victims with a minute of silence. The event was intended not only to honor the victims of the tragedy, but also to remind people of the importance of preserving historical memory and preventing manifestations of intolerance in modern society.

Without stopping on the path of spreading charity - we talk about history and the people thanks to whom we have the present. Never again, eternal honor to the martyrs of the Catastrophe and may they find peace in the arms of the righteous Heavens.

Eternal memory to all victims of the Holocaust - the genocide of the Jewish people, as well as to all who died in Babyn Yar at the hands of the Nazis.

To the 84th anniversary of the mass shootings in Babyn Yar

Babyn Yar, your voice is heard

From memorable cemeteries,

They are probably talking at this time.

Holocaust victims.

Burned - ashes turned to smoke

From the gas chambers,

All those shot – in the ravine

In one minute.

Overthrown by cruel evil

Into deadly pits.

Under the Nazi "Kyrzak"

Their lives are in ruins.

The old ones remained there,

Youth and children:

They won't build ships,

They won't plant flowers.

People, do you hear the voice?

From earth and sky.

He is addressing you:

"Evil must be stopped!"

poet Lyubov Shlain, 09/29/25.
