January 27 <\/strong>\u2013 the anniversary date. On this day <\/strong>All progressive humanity on the planet celebrates the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established by the decision of the UN General Assembly on November 1, 2005. Although World War II is receding further and further, its bloody crimes will never be erased from our memory. And today we unveiled a memorial sign on the site of the Proskuriv Jewish ghetto, made by the Khmelnytskyi City Council and the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" as a sign of honoring the bright memory of the innocently murdered, to once again remind humanity that fascism is an infinite evil, and its ideas must not be allowed to triumph.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the ghetto, which operated in 1941-1942, not only local residents were driven into it, but also Jews from the surrounding villages. People lived in prison conditions - behind barbed wire and under the constant sight of machine guns, they were not fed or watered, they died en masse from cold, hunger, thirst and disease. This was the beginning of the end: soon the ghetto residents were driven to the massacre in the Lezniewski Ravine. About 16 thousand Jews were destroyed in Proskurov. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The right to open the commemorative plaque was granted to the Deputy Mayor of Khmelnytskyi, M. Kryvak, and the Director of the Khmelnytskyi Charity Foundation "Hesed Besht", Honored Worker of the Social Sphere of Ukraine, I. Ratushny.<\/strong>. Representatives of the regional state administration took part in the rally, M. Kryvak, Deputy Chairman of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council V. Sokolyuk, volunteer of the Hesed Besht Foundation S. Milman, former ghetto prisoner L. Podlesny, author of the bas-relief artist and sculptor V. Karvasarny, representative of the younger generation P. Hetmanyuk took part. Rabbi of the Khmelnytskyi region and city Yosef Teitelbaum read the memorial prayer "Kaddish" in the presence of the minyan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A letter of condolence addressed to the participants of the rally from the head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience, O. V. Bohdan, was also read.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Memorials and monuments are what preserve us as a people. The installation of a sculptural bas-relief is a tribute to a historical fact, a bow to the ashes of those whose names were erased from our history 80 years ago. We strive to preserve the memory of the events of World War II, so as not to let the great human drama of the Holocaust fade into oblivion. Humanity must do everything to prevent something like this from ever happening to any people. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
