According to the ancient cosmogonic legend, the three whales from our epigraph are the basis of dreams, the foot of the whole world. Modern society also has "three whales" as its foundation. And each of them already has its own name. The first whale is called - Power<\/b>, the second one \u2013 Business<\/b>, and the whale is the third \u2013 modestly and simply \u2013 Third sector<\/b>. If everything is clear with the first two giants, then scientists call the third one non-state and non-governmental, as well as independent, non-commercial and non-profit. They also write that this original is active voluntarily, without any coercion, being a philanthropist and benefactor. That's such a nice guy!<\/p>\n

And although this story began in a somewhat joking manner, its purpose is quite serious: to tell about "whales-smaller fish". And one of them is the "Hesed Besht" Charitable Foundation. So, in order.<\/p>\n

Is a good person not a profession?<\/b><\/p>\n

The successful operation of any organization requires both money and people. And not just people, but a team of like-minded professionals. That's right, in the exact meaning of this term. That's why even in the period of formation of the organization, a group photo of the team appeared in the most visible place with the inscription "Cadry solves everything!". And it was not just a slogan - it was a paradigm. And again I want to focus the attention of readers on the exact meaning of this word - example, model, sample<\/b>. It was according to such a high standard that the team was formed, thanks to which all the successes of the Foundation were achieved.<\/p>\n

Is it easy to work in such a field as the third sector? I will say directly - no. Today's realities pose more and more complex tasks. To solve them, you need to be an economist and a psychologist, a marketer and a teacher, able to work equally well with people and with documents, be attentive and attentive, communicative and conscientious. From artistry to scrupulousness - this is the wide range of professional qualities that a modern specialist working in an organization such as ours must possess. But even this is not enough. To be a social worker, you need to love people, know how to empathize, be honest and loyal, indifferent and purposeful. Aren't these the qualities of a good person? Therefore, I can confidently say: a good social worker is a good person and a good specialist.<\/p>\n

And we are learning, constantly learning: stopping here is tantamount to degradation and sliding down. Our motto: Only forward! This is the only way we have been working effectively for the benefit of society for fifteen years.<\/p>\n

And so that this phrase does not seem like a well-worn template, we will try to briefly answer the question: "What does the charity fund do?" After all, he does not sow and reap, does not produce and does not sell, does not aspire to power and does not support himself on budget money. What is a charity fund doing anyway?". Briefly, it can be said as follows:Improves the quality of life!<\/b>\u00bb And this is his main purpose.<\/p>\n

If necessary, the third sector will defend the rights of its clients; in a difficult moment he will support both in word and deed; will fight loneliness, open up talents and help realize them. After all, it is very important for a person of any age to know that he is not alone, that he is thought of, remembered and cared for, that there is protection and support - a kind of "umbrella" in bad weather and a friend with whom you can share the light of joy.<\/p>\n

Who needs this?<\/b><\/p>\n

The question is not idle, and I think it is quite timely. First of all, the presence of the third sector is an integral part of a developed civil society. After all, no state can be called democratic without such a society.<\/p>\n

The topic of civil society is very relevant today, although it has been discussed and argued about for more than one thousand years. For the first time, this term appeared in the ancient era in the writings of Aristotle, who called civil society a community of free and equal citizens bound together by a certain form of political structure.<\/p>\n

In recent years, a lot of articles, textbooks, theses, studies have been written, and nevertheless, there is still no strictly defined designation of this concept. As an example, I will give the first two of the many "caught" on the Internet:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Civil society is a sphere of self-expression of free citizens and voluntarily formed associations and organizations, independent of direct interference and arbitrary regulation from the outside<\/p>\n

state power.<\/p>\n

- Civil society is a union of people living in a certain territory, united by a system of public relations,<\/p>\n

which serve to implement their general and private interests, protected and<\/p>\n

protected by the state.<\/p>\n

And we, Jews, have our own philosophical prerequisites for the formation of a "society of citizens of high social status who create developed legal relations together with the state."<\/p>\n

In the treatise "Perkei Avot" (Teachings of the Fathers), which is known to be the moral and ethical code of Judaism, we read:If I'm not for myself, then who is for me? But if I am only for myself, then what do I stand for? And if not now, then when?<\/b>". What is not a guide to active action?<\/p>\n

There are many interpretations of this postulate. And their main conclusion is: a person has great opportunities to improve and change the world for the better. But for this he must awaken in himself the strength for a worthy life and creative creativity, otherwise he should not expect help in this, either from people or from Heaven.<\/p>\n

From all of the above, the conclusion is self-evident: civil society and its third sector are necessary, both for each individual and for society as a whole.<\/p>\n

We have done a lot in fifteen years. How many people have we helped with medicines and products; with our help, the houses of many of our clients became warmer in cold winters, they do not have them<\/p>\n

needs for goods of first necessity, clothes, shoes, linen. A product set for the grandmother, a backpack and school supplies for the grandson, holidays and concerts for all family members, more peace and confidence in the future - this is our daily work and our joys.<\/p>\n

And in today's difficult times, we are with people. When the country is restless, people need psychological support, and sometimes psychological rehabilitation. That's why we invite everyone to our holidays, concerts, and club classes. We conduct lectures and trainings. Excursions, trips to nature, exhibitions of creative works, musical evenings - all this calms people down, instills confidence in them and provides such a necessary point of support.<\/p>\n

And it is also important. For some reason, we rarely pay attention to the fact that the third sector is permanent jobs, a stable salary, and social guarantees. If we are talking about our Fund, then we act in accordance with the Labor Law - we pay for sick leave and vacations, we transfer funds to pension and insurance funds, we provide all social benefits to young mothers, women with children.<\/p>\n

Such an interesting fact: thirty-nine children were born in the families of our employees during the fifteen years of the organization's work. This is our contribution to demography.<\/p>\n

Non-commercial commerce<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

The third sector is also called "not government and not business" or "non-commercial organizations". But for their effective work, a stable source of financing is necessary, otherwise the infrastructure of the third sector will not be able to exist. And here we cannot do without organizations - donors. We also have such organizations.<\/p>\n

This is the "American Jewish United Distribution Committee", abbreviated as "Joint" - the largest Jewish charitable organization created in 1914, and "Claims Conference" - Commission for Jewish material claims to Germany.<\/p>\n

Donors allocate funds for certain programs in four main directions: assistance to the elderly; family and child support; development of the Jewish community; international development. These general directions in each region of the world have their own peculiarities. But life is more complex and diverse than clearly defined frameworks. After all, there is also the history of the people, material culture, problems of young people and problems of people with special needs.<\/p>\n

That's what comes to the fore today is activity that can be called "non-commercial commerce". And it can be characterized in the words of the English writer Samuel Butler: "Any commerce is an attempt to predict the future<\/b>".<\/p>\n

So we, anticipating the future, mastered such types of activities as fundraising (the process of attracting money and other resources), management (management) in the social sphere. We are looking for grant-giving organizations, preparing projects. All this is a big job that requires certain knowledge, perseverance and determination. The fact that this activity is effective is evidenced by the successful implementation of such financially intensive projects as the reconstruction and construction of communal real estate (Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil), the reconstruction and construction of monuments of Jewish history (Khmelnytskyi, Kamenets-Podolskyi, Volochysk), the successful implementation of such a project as the "Rehabilitation Center" (Pechesky village). And many more such examples can be cited.<\/p>\n

Image is everything!<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

Does a charitable organization need its own image? Of course, no less than a commercial organization. And this is one of the important components of the activity that we defined as "non-commercial commerce". In order for the "smaller fish whales" to successfully fulfill the mission assigned to them, it is necessary to have a face, to be recognizable. This is necessary in order for programs to be perceived positively, for successful models of work to be replicated, which will ultimately serve the benefit of society.<\/p>\n

To do this, it is necessary to carry out purposeful work on spreading information about yourself, establish and comprehensively develop relations with the public, and actively cooperate with the mass media. What we do successfully. Our logo, corporate form, design of published materials have become recognizable. This is a kind of business card that disciplines and obliges everyone together and everyone individually to observe and increase the values of our organization.<\/p>\n

Partnership<\/b><\/p>\n

Dynamic development of society is possible only if all our "whales" swim together in one direction. Scientists call this process a social partnership with the state and business. Thanks to a far-sighted strategy, the Fund has always actively worked in this direction. We always boldly asserted ourselves, did not confine ourselves to narrow cellular frameworks, responded to any call for cooperation and boldly initiated such steps ourselves. Conferences and "round tables", dialogues and joint events - this is an incomplete list of those forms of work that contribute to public dialogue and mutual understanding.<\/p>\n

Today, the "Hesed Besht" Foundation has social partnership agreements with more than twenty organizations. And this is not just a document neatly stored in a folder. According to this document, active joint work in the field of social sphere, education, culture. And a special sticker, located in a visible place, will tell all visitors of this institution about such cooperation. And this is another example of non-commercial commerce.<\/p>\n

The main thing: such cooperation is mutually beneficial. The third sector, with its already sufficiently powerful infrastructure, is ready to fulfill any government order for the provision of social services. We already have such a positive experience. By order of the state social protection authorities, the Fund works with certain groups of citizens in the Rehabilitation Center in the village of Pechesky, Khmelnytskyi District.<\/p>\n

Now about cooperation with business structures. Without such a partnership, the Foundation could not implement all its restoration and construction projects. And in fifteen years of work, a lot has been done in this regard. Only in the last five years was the reconstruction of the synagogue and the Community Center, the construction of a monument to the victims of the Holocaust in Khmelnytskyi, and the construction of the Community Center in Ternopil.<\/p>\n

Now on the agenda is the question of the construction of the premises of the Charity Center. After all, all this is communal property, which will serve people for more than a decade.<\/p>\n

All these examples are evidence of society's respect for those structures that are commonly called the third sector and for the "Hesed Besht" Charitable Foundation as its worthy representative.<\/p>\n

And finally, a little about symbols. In Judaism, a fish is a symbol of fertility, survival, and the image of three fish is a symbol of eternity. After all, fish survived the global flood.<\/p>\n

That's why three "whale-fish" were chosen as a symbol of this story as an image of the eternal movement towards perfection, goodness and harmony.<\/p>\n
