The catastrophe of European Jewry, and in particular the Holocaust on our land, is always studied and researched by employees and volunteers of the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" - this topic is inexhaustible. But January 27 is a special date for us. On the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established by the decision of the UN General Assembly in 2005, we hold a number of events to once again remind our compatriots of the terrible tragedy that befell an entire people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We started the day of remembrance with a rally for the staff of the Hesed Besht Foundation and the nursing sisters. We talked about how the Holocaust took place in our region, and lit 6 candles in memory of the 6 million lives lost. <\/strong><\/p>\n

At the same time, another group of our fund managers worked at the Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration. To honor the memory of all Jews exterminated during World War II, recall the events that took place in the region at that time, and better understand the causes and consequences of this terrible genocide of the Jewish people, a roundtable meeting was held there and a traveling exhibition "The Holocaust: Pain and Memory" was launched. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The events then moved to the Khmelnytskyi Holocaust Memorial. Members of the Jewish community, representatives of the Peace Corps in Khmelnytskyi, and the city's concerned public gathered for the rally and spoke. <\/strong><\/p>\n

At 3 p.m., famous historians and scholars from Khmelnytskyi, history teachers from the city's schools, a prisoner of the Proskuriv ghetto Leonid Pidlisny, a member of the Jewish community Susanna Katz, volunteers of the foundation Semen Milman and Leonid Zapadenko, and representatives of the media and the public came to Hesed to participate in the round table. A thematic book exhibition was held, organized by employees of the regional universal scientific library. The meeting lasted 2.5 hours. This indicates great interest in the topic. The speeches of teacher Oleg Rudoy, illustrated with slides, and his student Olena, who deeply researches the topic, were especially interesting. Such interest is not accidental: in her family there were three righteous people who hid and supported Jews during the war. <\/strong><\/p>\n

We hope that our conversation was not in vain, because each of those who work with youth took away new knowledge and ideas from the meeting and will be able to implement them in the practice of their work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And on January 27, high school students wrote a thematic dictation in the city's schools. This event took place within the framework of a jointly developed plan by the Hesed Besht Foundation and the Department of Education. According to this plan, schoolchildren and students come to the Holocaust Museum for excursions, listen to qualified lecturers. The excursions will last until Victory Day. This is important, because the lessons learned from the tragedy of the Holocaust must not only be heard, but also well learned in order to prevent repetitions in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the evening, our manager Halyna Gilberg took part in the TV program "Topic of the Day" of the TV company "Podillia-Center". By the way, a few days earlier, manager Halyna Skrypnyk spoke on the regional radio. They also spoke about the horrors of the Holocaust and about the great work that the "Hesed Besht" foundation does to research the topic of the Holocaust, preserve monuments and honor the bright memory of the innocently executed.<\/strong><\/p>\n
