Khmelnytskyi Jewish community welcomes guests

The coronavirus pandemic, fortunately, did not paralyze the life of the Khmelnytskyi Jewish community. We have something to tell and something to show. The Kesher Project in Ukraine was launched by project "Traveling through the communities of Ukraine. Visiting..."And we had the honor of being the first to be visited by women from the Kesher Project from Ukraine and even other countries. On October 28, the first virtual trip to the city of Khmelnytskyi and the Khmelnytskyi Jewish community took place.

The meeting was held by our activists, volunteers of the Khmelnytskyi community Iryna Gerasimenyuk, Halyna Hilberg, Natalia GerasimenkoUnder the leadership of the director of the Hesed Besht Charitable Foundation, head of the regional Jewish community, Honored Social Worker of Ukraine Igor Ratushny they prepared an extraordinary presentation, in which they included important and interesting information about the Jewish history of the city of Khmelnytskyi and its modern life, programs and projects of their community and women's group, and also shared their experience working during the pandemic.

Thus, the partner of the Kesher Project in Ukraine spoke about the role of women in the Jewish community in changing attitudes towards women's health (from passive to proactive).  Igor Garriyovych Drobner  – Head of the Surgical Department of the Khmelnytsky Regional Oncology Dispensary, oncologist-mammologist. In his interview with Kesher Project activist Olga Nikitina, the doctor emphasized the importance of interaction between public organizations and doctors in promoting early diagnosis of breast cancer and urged women to be responsible for their health and get tested on time, especially during the pandemic.

The time of the online trip to Khmelnytskyi flew by unnoticed, in one breath. In the chat, the participants expressed their gratitude for the useful and valuable information that Halyna, Iryna, and Natalya shared during the meeting. It will be interesting for us to visit other Jewish communities in Ukraine.
