Today we celebrate the victory over Fascism in Europe, the victory in the Great Patriotic War, which brought so much death and grief to humanity as a whole and to our people in particular. There are already extremely few people who took direct part in military operations, medals and orders no longer shine so brightly on ceremonial uniforms. But the memory of descendants does not fade, names and feats are not forgotten.
In the morning, people with flowers and well-dressed people come to the courtyard of the main office of the Hesed Besht Charity Foundation. There, tables for conversations and traditional buckwheat porridge are already waiting for them, without which it is impossible to remember May 9th at Hesed. The Foundation's clients, friends and caring people are met by the organization's employees in full uniform. On the eve of the holiday, a new accessory appeared on it - a poppy flower, which anyone who wanted could make independently under the watchful eye of the Client Relations Manager, needlewoman Olena Torbina.
Here and there you can observe groups of people who are lively communicating with each other, some with tears in their eyes, as in the lines of the cult song: "...this is a holiday with tears in their eyes..." For many elderly clients, this day is an occasion to come together, when chronic illnesses take a back seat, and people are moved by the joy of a significant date, respect for the defenders, and the bright memory of the dead.
Over time, a wide semicircle is built, occupying the entire yard. The music, which throughout the morning reminded the guests of the front-line times, gradually subsides. Attention switches to young people in military uniforms from the wartime era - participants of the youth theater "Dzerkalo", who came to congratulate the veterans and their descendants. The extremely strong poem read by them leaves no one indifferent, and its main theme is words of gratitude to those who defended the Victory.
Later, the participants of the gathering were divided into two groups. The smaller group took seats in the Foundation's vehicle, which set off for the Holocaust Memorial on Silskohospodarska Street. There, in the presence of the minyan, a memorial prayer was read for the victims of the Catastrophe. All the rest formed a column and, with flowers in their hands, set off for the Eternal Flame memorial, where they took part in laying flowers at the foot of the obelisk together with other citizens of the city.
Victory today is a seven-decade-old symbol of punishment for evil, from which millions of innocent people suffered. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to say: “Never again,” because soldiers continue to die on both sides, which means that something was not seen through, something was not completed. But it is the symbol of Victory, which our grandfathers won, that helps their modern grandchildren forge a new victory. No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten.
