The charity event “Travel for a Good Deed” took place as part of the All-Ukrainian project “Week of Good Deeds”, giving a piece of good to hundreds of its participants.
"Week of Good Deeds" is a project of national importance, which aims to activate people to do good deeds, think about ways to improve the world and listen to the problems of their neighbors. The practice of conducting the project has moved from Ukraine to Israel, where many volunteers, celebrities, and public figures join it. This year, the project will be held for the first time in our city by volunteers of the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht", which joined the All-Ukrainian volunteer network "Community" in March 2015, and with the assistance of the Khmelnytskyi municipal enterprise "Khmelnytsktrans".
The essence of the campaign is to motivate ordinary people to do good deeds by offering to pay for their travel on public transport – trolleybuses of all routes. A small-scale good deed, however, is a good “motor” that makes a person think about good deeds in general. The campaign volunteers did not just hand out tickets – they talked to people, prompting them to think about good deeds that could be done. It is nice when, during the conversation, people began to become more active, talk and even discuss with the volunteers. This is direct evidence that the campaign was useful to them.
And if the participant thought nothing came of it, he was invited to visit the “Volunteer School” at the Hesed Besht Charitable Foundation, which is now part of the All-Ukrainian volunteer network “Community”, for the sake of multiplying good deeds, general personal growth, and improving our world. Here they are well versed in ways to do good and have all the resources and authority to do so – if there was a desire.
During the campaign, one hundred transport tickets were sold, and therefore one hundred good deeds were done. Of course, there were some funny incidents: some people immediately left the volunteers when they heard the word “free”, simply not believing that such a thing was possible in our time. Some of the controllers, not being informed about the campaign, were surprised and confused. However, in general, the vast majority did take advantage of the right to free travel. The organizers hope that next time there will be fewer misunderstandings, when people believe in the power of good deeds.
