Charitable visits from American friends

Three foreign guests attended the Passover Seder at the Thia Community Center – future rabbis of progressive Judaism from the USA, Sarah, Joanna and Kim. Their stay in our city was not limited to the celebration of the Exodus from Egypt. The next day, the guests visited inactive members of our community – clients of the Hesed Besht Foundation – so that they could join in the Seder without even leaving their homes.

The future rabbis visited the homes of Boris Shlain, Mark Voldman, and Olena Ratner. Elderly people suffer from a great lack of communication, so the visit of guests for them is not only a pleasant but also a very useful surprise. Mark Kopelevich communicated with the Americans in Hebrew: this was almost the first time he was able to use these linguistic skills in a live conversation with other people.

The guests from America did not visit the people empty-handed. They brought food packages and literature to each home. Together with our people, they recalled the history of Pesach and performed the ritual part. By their example, these people demonstrated how the commandment of Mitzvah works among the Jewish people: when you yourself need help or support, there will definitely be someone who is able to lend a helping hand.

The practice of visiting lonely people is firmly rooted in our community. We would like to remind you that on the holiday of Purim, the Foundation's inactive clients were visited by funny clowns.
