Lag Ba-Omer is a wonderful and not quite ordinary Jewish holiday. It is both a day of remembrance for the sage Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbam). And memories of the epidemic that took the lives of 24 thousand students of Rabbi Akiva for disrespect for each other. It is also the 33rd day of the Omer, which inevitably brings us closer to the holiday of Shavuot - receiving the Torah. And a prayer for the coming harvest. And the anniversary of the most important victory of the Bar Kokhba rebels over the Romans. And the Day of the Dead ... On such a busy day, clients of the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" gathered together to remember all these events and make provisions for the future.
Traditionally, at this time of year, clients and employees of the Foundation always go out into nature, light a bonfire and have a great time. With the advent of the Rehabilitation Center "School of Health" in the village of Pecheski in 2007, there was no better place for this! That is why Khmelnytskyi Jews spent Lag Ba-Omer 2016 in their favorite "country residence", as people sometimes call the Center. Representatives of different generations - children, youth, adults, grandparents - settled together in the bosom of nature. There was music, songs, dances, cheerful children's laughter. There were games and quizzes dedicated to Lag Ba-Omer.
In the fire of the bonfire, we saw the unity of all Jews on the planet. After all, on this day, the holiday is also celebrated in Israel and America, France and Australia, Great Britain and Canada... Of course, we gratefully remembered all our friends who support our clients, the main benefactor among whom is the American Jewish Joint Committee "Joint".
The organizers of the event, from among the curators and managers of the Hesed Besht Jewish Charitable Foundation, demonstrated to those present that if you treat the matter with your heart, then adhering to tradition and fulfilling the commandments is not only necessary, but also interesting.
Having had a wonderful rest, gained new knowledge, and been spiritually enriched, the representatives of the progressive Judaism community went home. With the hope of seeing each other again soon. Until new meetings, Jews!
