Khmelnytskyi City

On February 15 of this year, the Jewish community and the caring public of Khmelnytsky will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Proskuriv Jewish pogrom. For a long time, there was an information vacuum around that event, and the fact that about 1,600 people died at the hands of the pogromists in Proskuriv and almost 600 in the village of Felshtyn was deliberately kept quiet.

However, the roundtable meeting, which took place on February 12 at the Social Assistance Center of the Hesed Besht Jewish Charitable Foundation, showed that the interest in that tragic page of the city's history and the history of the Jewish people is enormous. The guests - scientists, historians, clergymen of various confessions, representatives of the city's national communities, representatives of the community of the village of Hvardiyske, museum and library workers - discussed that event with great interest, gave their assessment of it, and developed a joint solution.

Everyone's opinions are different - that's how it should be, but everyone agreed on one thing: it's not right to sow discord and hatred between people of different nationalities. Such tragedies should not have any chance of recurring.
