Victory Day in Pluzhne
In May 2019, as part of the celebration of Victory Day and commemoration of the fallen soldiers and victims of the Holocaust, employees of the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation “Hesed Besht” and volunteers of the All-Ukrainian network “Volonteer Community” visited the Pluzhnya Comprehensive Sanatorium-Boarding School, located in the Izyaslav district. The reason for the meeting was not only Victory Day. The time spent with students, teachers and school management was very rich, interesting and productive. The meeting with by members of the "Memory" club, an excursion to the school's local history museum, a traveling exhibition "Holocaust and Memory" and a story about the terrible events of the past, a visit to the site of the execution of the Jewish population during the Holocaust in the forest near the village of Pluzhne, which is cared for by the children and teachers of the school - this is not all that was full of that sunny May day. The institution is a leader in the volunteer movement in the Khmelnytskyi region: from early childhood, mentors teach students to be merciful, to feel other people's pain, to do good concrete deeds. Since the history of the town is inextricably linked with the history of the Jewish community, children and teachers are interested in the culture and traditions of the ancient Jewish people, its tragedy, revival and achievements.
Following the results of the trip, we turned to sponsors with a request to help finance the reconstruction of the Holocaust Memorial and the improvement of the surrounding area.
