On Iyar 28 according to the Jewish calendar (this year it falls on May 10), we celebrate Jerusalem Day.
It was proclaimed after the Six-Day War of 1967, after which Israel won its right to the Old City. Then, for the first time, the most sacred places for the Jewish people - the Temple Mount and the Western Wall - came under the control of the state of Israel, and Jews received open access to pray at their shrines.
Therefore, this holiday is extremely important for every Jew and is celebrated very solemnly in Israel. Festive prayers and joyful psalms are read in synagogues, ceremonies are held on Arsenal Hill and Mount Herzl, dedicated to the memory of the soldiers who died during the Six-Day War; a "March to Jerusalem" with flags is held; in the "Merkaz Ha-Rav" yeshiva, a celebration is held in the evening, which brings together rabbis, government leaders and ministers, Knesset members, the IDF Chief of Staff and prominent public figures. After midnight, a procession begins from the yeshiva to the Western Wall.
Jerusalem is one for all Jews of the world. In dispersion, we also celebrate and honor the memory of the fallen heroes of the Six-Day War, pray for the well-being of Eretz Israel. This day symbolizes the historical connection of the Jewish people with Jerusalem.. We congratulate everyone on the holiday! And as a holiday gift, we offer to watch a dance prepared especially for this day by the patronage workers of Hesed.
Israel is an open country for every Jew, and some of our compatriots have exercised their right to repatriation. On Jerusalem Day, we send them warm greetings and souvenirs from their small homeland - from the place where they were born, raised, lived a significant part of their lives and for which, of course, they feel nostalgia. We remember you, recall the times spent together in our Hesed, and ask you: pray at the Western Wall for us and all the Jews of Ukraine. May the Almighty send us good health, peace, tranquility and prosperity.
