On June 23, in the city cinema named after T. G. Shevchenko of Slavuta, an action of the Khmelnytskyi branch of the VZHEO “Project Kesher” entitled “It is healthy to be healthy” took place, aimed at actualizing the issue of the incidence of breast cancer in women. On this day, a mammologist from the Khmelnytskyi Regional Oncology Dispensary, Harry Drobner, arrived in Slavuta and conducted a professional examination of the participants of the action. The event was supported by the Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation “Hesed Besht” and its local branch, and active announcements were made in the media.
First of all, it is worth noting the understanding of the host party: the Slavutych City Council and the city manager Vasyl Sydor and the cinema management. They provided the premises and equipment of the cinema for the presentation of the “Kesher Project”, which made it possible to show the video sequence on a large screen and with powerful sound. The method of presenting the video is quite important, and when it, as in our case, carries great social and psychological significance, it is impossible to imagine a better one.
The event was widely announced in the local media, as its importance for women is extremely high. Harry Yosypovich examined 71 women during the reception and returned to the examination room several times after it, because some of the Slavutych women were late for the appointed time. Some of the women (more unfortunately than fortunately) were already familiar with the mammologist and at the presentation of the “Kesher Project” spoke about him not only as a professional, but also as an extremely charismatic and life-affirming person who convincingly sets women up for self-examination and a careful attitude towards their health.
“Project Kesher” volunteer Olga Nikitina gave a lively and, as they say, “to the point” presentation. There were no unnecessary lyrical digressions here. After all, everyone who came to this hall today made a common choice for everyone – to be healthy, take care of themselves and others, and not let such an insidious disease as breast cancer spoil women’s bodies. The head of the Khmelnytskyi branch, Iryna Gerasymenyuk, and volunteer Nataliya Gerasymenko, distributed self-examination calendars and campaign leaflets among those present. Before the presentation, they were among the women who were waiting in line to see the doctor, had conversations, answered questions, and in every way encouraged those who were given the opportunity to hear the doctor’s preliminary “verdict” in a few minutes.
“Project Kesher” will continue to organize similar events in the region, following its high mission. After all, our goal is to make society healthier by all possible means. Health promotion is one of the most effective!
