Today, all progressive humanity on the planet celebrates the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This alarm date. Humanity must not only know about the mass extermination of Jews during World War II, it must learn and assimilate this tragic lesson. After all, history has the ability to repeat itself, and already, look, German fascism has been replaced by racism - the same evil. Ukrainians now, like Jews then, are also being exterminated on national grounds...
A rally-requiem in memory of the victims of the Holocaust was also held today near the memorial sign on the site of the former Proskuriv Jewish ghetto. Khmelnytskyi residents honored the bright memory of the murdered, bowed their heads in a sincere prayer, which was read by the rabbi of the Jewish religious community of the Khmelnytskyi region, Yosef Teitelbaum.
The rally was addressed by Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council Valentyn Sokolyuk and Deputy Mayor Mykhailo Kryvak. The speeches of our clients who survived the Holocaust: Susanna Katz, Yukhim Dumer and Leonid Pidlisny were permeated with bitterness that such horrors are being repeated in modern realities. On behalf of the younger generation, which should pick up the baton of memory, Oleksandr Varfolomeyev spoke.
And then we recited the Kaddish in the presence of a minyan at the Holocaust Memorial, where, in the Lesniewski Ravine, prisoners of the Proskuriv ghetto were shot during the war.
In total, 153 thousand innocent victims died at the hands of German executioners in the Khmelnytskyi region.
