Tablets on a concrete pedestal

The Holocaust Memorial on Silskohospodarska Street is taking on new forms at the stage of forming an architectural ensemble. A year ago, the Hesed Besht Charity Foundation ordered two stone tablets to be placed at the end of the central alley, but there were no funds to install these elements. In early June, this issue was resolved with the help of the Khmelnytskyi City Council and city utilities, which joined in the improvement of the memorial.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Miskrada and personally to Mayor Oleksandr Symchyshyn for their understanding and support in the issue of improving the Memorial territory. Once it was a distant outskirts of Proskuriv, but now it is a completely urban area with convenient access for vehicles and not far from city transport stops. The importance of this object is not limited to the Jewish community: 8,200 of our countrymen and fellow citizens whose lives were interrupted by inhumane occupation orders are buried here. The unhealed wound still makes itself felt in the context of the city's history, and the Memorial serves as a silent reminder to current Khmelnytskyi about the tragedy of past years.

The city authorities installed two tablets on a concrete pedestal with high quality and accuracy. To complete the work, the pedestal still needs to be covered with a marble slab, and we are confident that this will happen in the near future. Also, with the support of the city authorities, the foundation of the future road was laid around the Memorial. The Hesed Besht Civil Society Foundation could not do it independently and according to the plan, since this is a very expensive procedure using special equipment.

Cooperation with the arrangement of the memorial territory of the state authorities and non-governmental organizations is an example of a developed and civilized society, in which there is no division into "our" and "others'" problems. The Jewish community is convinced that together we will continue to preserve the memory and teach future generations from the bitter experience of our predecessors.
