World Jewish Knowledge Day is held once a year and unites all Jews of the world in the study of texts of Jewish cultural heritage. The main values of this holiday are the global unification of Jews from different parts of the world for personal spiritual enrichment, strengthening Jewish unity, and the exchange of unique experiences. This day became global, that is, comprehensive, thanks to the use of the Internet for communication of all centers of the Day into one large virtual team, where each participant can communicate with millions of others in all corners of the planet. The Khmelnytskyi Charitable Foundation "Hesed Besht" also joined this interesting and useful process.
The theme of this year's Jewish Knowledge Day was "People of the Book: Heroes, Criminals, Righteous and Fools". A fairly wide range of smaller topics, biographies and stories that tell about the lives and contributions of individual personalities gave the organizers a fertile field for activity. The main event was held at the Community Center "Thia", which works for the cultural and spiritual growth of Jewish communities in the Khmelnytskyi region. It is pleasant to note that last year the Community Center "Thia" performed the same functions for the Ternopil region, but with the opening of the Community Center in Ternopil this year, the geography of activity was reduced against the background of an increase in the overall efficiency of the work of the two organizations. Also on this day, an event was held at the Khmelnytskyi Regional Scientific Library named after M. Ostrovsky, which also touched on the theme of the World Jewish Knowledge Day.
Members of the Jewish community, youth, cultural workers, and schoolchildren were invited to the event. The central figure of the event was a man who changed the course of the history of Jewish spirituality - our fellow countryman, the tzaddik Baal Shem Tov. They talked about him, his teachings, and the world-famous "Tales of the Baal Shem Tov," his students and followers, as well as his interaction with local residents. Other prominent figures were also honored - natives of Podillia, among whom, depending on the topic, there were both heroes and completely short-sighted individuals. And at the end of the event, special Jewish texts were presented to the audience, which, in addition to the words themselves, have an additional feature - klezmer music. We are talking about ancient Jewish songs in Yiddish, which were played in the musical program of the same name.

In the library that day, the Day of Jewish Knowledge was discussed in the context of the “Days of Tolerance”, which are traditionally held in Ukraine in the pre-winter period. And on November 17, the “Thia” Community Center was visited by students from the 15th city school with employees of the Khmelnytskyi Youth Library, who came to get acquainted with the culture of the Jewish people. They were given a tour of the museums of the Community Center, and a master class was held in the visual arts studio.
We hope that the next World Jewish Knowledge Day will be no less interesting and productive. The very idea of such an event deserves attention and gratitude, since the global nature of the events, the opportunity to communicate with fellow Jews around the world is an extremely important aspect of community development.
