A famous photo exhibition was presented at the Khmelnytskyi Regional Library for Youth “The Samaritans of Markova”, which has been traveling around Ukraine for a long time. This is a selection of photographs about the life and tragic death of the Ulm family from Polish Prykarpattia, who hid two Jewish families during the Holocaust. The organizers of the exhibition were the Khmelnytsky Union of Poles and, in fact, the library. Members of the Jewish community and employees of the Hesed Besht Foundation were also invited to the event. “We have gathered here because today’s topic has no statute of limitations,” said the Director of the “Thia” Center, Vyacheslav Nagnybida, in his speech. “The feat of the Righteous Among the Nations is invaluable in any country in the world, because whoever saves at least one life saves the whole world.” The topic of the Righteous Among the Nations has been gaining particular prominence in recent years, although the Righteous Among the Nations themselves, to our great regret, are leaving this world due to their advanced age. The Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem seeks to immortalize the names of all the Righteous Among the Nations, which is why research into the historical facts of their feats is still ongoing. We are very pleased that different nations find understanding when it comes to heroism, humanism, and saving lives. The opening of the exhibition showed that tolerance defeated fascism and now memory will never fade.
